Earn money while you shop

by bargainblog @ 2007-11-08 - 19:08:53

Now I love shopping but always feel a little guilty about spending, particularly on myself! :-/ So i'm constantly on the lookout for ways to spend less or counteract the feelings of guilt!

Like most supermarket shoppers, I have a range of supermarket loyalty cards. But last Christmas I started looking into credit cards which feed into these schemes. The result? I've now got a Tesco Clubcard credit card. This fantastic card gives me 5 clubcard points for every £4 i spend at Tesco or Tesco.com AND 1 point for every £4 I spend elsewhere meaning I can effectively get money back on whatever I buy.

I'm also a Nectar card holder and have got loads of extra points through using Nectar e-stores - a simple system which awards you Nectar points if you purchase from a range of online retailers providing go go through the Nectar e-stores site.

My most recent money-back discovery is online cashback sites. These operate in a similar way to Nectar e-stores in that they award you cashback for purchases you make from a huge range of online retailers, providing you go through the cashback site. It's simple, you sign up to a site, login, click on the link to your retailer of choice and then make your purchase as normal. The cashback site can track this purchase and award you cashback for it.The cashback sites are able to do this because they receive commission for 'referring' you to the retailer - it's a brilliant concept. And they don't just give you cashback on 'traditional' shopping, you can also get it for opening bank accounts, buying insurance and even for using price comparison sites. I've joined Quidco, but there are loads of others out there.

So now i can shop to my heart's content without feeling guilty about it .

The best way to earn money is to save money. Tescos are not the cheapest, they are just the largest one of an oligopoly of stores that are often beaten on price by smaller outfits (so much for the economies of scale).

By using old-fashioned cold cash in places run by the owner or where a manager really is a manager and not just some tiny cog in a wheel gets results. By not being shy to actually ask for a better price, I often get better deals than are advertised. Shopping also becomes much more fun when shopkeepers get to know you. I find that oddly enough they respect you as a customer when you do this, as long as you are reasonable in the way you ask for things, show an interest in them and respect the time and effort they have put into building their business.

Discount codes are all for the taking too. Or use ebay to find products that folks are pricing way to low!

One thing I know for sure is that you can't complain about credit card offers, they are all over the place and it's all just a matter of choice. Thanks for sharing these these tips, I've just applied for a credit card at www.ApplyOnline.CitiCards.com they seem to suit my specific financial needs and they also have nice optional offers.

What happened here. You have disappeared from the site and are no where to be found. There are also new shopping things where people will pay you to go to their stores, shop and purchase items then tell them about what you purchased the customer service and the environment of the store. It is a great way to earn money and receive free stuff at the same time.
